DEAR YOUNGER SELF
To My Younger Self
If I ever wrote to you, my younger self —
I’d ask you not to be too kind.
Not to be too worried.
Not to be too scattered.
Not to be too scared.
You matter to you more than anyone in this world.
You should have been a little naughty,
a little bad,
a little less obedient,
a little more courageous.
You should have shown some guts to express.
But I don’t want to change you.
If you were the best person, I wouldn’t even think of you.
If you were the worst, I might have hated you.
But you’re neither — and that’s why I thank you.
Thank you for being you.
I might not be in the greatest position now,
but that’s not what I want to tell you.
Just… be you.
